Everyone is talking about our holiday concert ‘One Joyous Night’ featuring gospel royalty Stellar Award and Grammy Award winner Yolanda Adams.
The Houston Texas native is one of the most recognized gospel artist in the world having sold over 10 million albums and known as the ‘Queen of Contemporary Gospel Music will be gracing us with her presence for an unforgettable night of praise and worship.
I have been going through my catalogue of Yolanda Adams music and I have compiled a list of my favorite 5 records that I hope she will perform at ‘One Joyous Night’ for my own selfish reasons in no particular order.
#5. MY LIBERTY
This is where I first got introduced to Yolanda Adams while singing with the Southeast Inspirational Choir. Her voice caught the attention of the late Maestro Thomas A. Whitfield who also produced her debut album Just As I AM in September 1987. I still have flashbacks of singing this song while in the Youth and Young Adult Choir in church back in Chicago.
#4. THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S
This is one of my personal favorites from Yolanda Adams from her third album Save The World released in October of 1993. Just a simple reminder of whatever you are going through the Battle is not YOURS, but the Lord’s. This record still resonates after it’s release over 30 years later.
#3 BE BLESSED
This favorite of mine is from her ninth studio album Day By Day released in August 2005 and also produced by the legendary Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. This was a big album for Yolanda as Day by Day was her highest album to chart which debuted at number 23 on the US Billboard 200.
#2 Open My Heart
“I wanna talk to you, and ask you for your guidance...”
Yolanda knows how to deliver a song that speaks directly into your soul. When I first heard this song from her sixth studio album ‘Mountain High Valley Low’ it instantly turned into one of my all time favorites. Released in September 1999 I have played this CD so many times I had to replace it because it scratched.
#1 IN THE MIDST OF IT ALL
I had to go back to back on this one because 'Mountain High Valley Low’ is my favorite album from Yolanda Adams. I can remember where I was in 1999 as I was coming into adulthood and trying to navigate the challenges of being a single father because my twins were four years old at the time. This is a song I still have on repeat when I am going through just as a simple reminder that God will keep me and even YOU ‘In The Midst of It All.."
I am looking forward to getting my praise on at ‘One Joyous Night’ at Thrasher Horne Center December 7th, 2025.
