What do you get when you have bold storytelling, hometown pride, and BIG “DUUUVAL” energy? You get ‘Da Bait’ a short film that got the streets talking in Jacksonville.
Meet Todd Jackson Jr. he is the writer of his latest project ‘Da Bait’ which premiered in theaters Thursday (August 14th) and I had the opportunity to sit with him and talk about this movie, Phaze 3, and the Duval Renaissance vibe going on around town.
From his humble beginnings as a child, Todd got his early influences from his grandmother who would plan special dates on Sunday’s where they would watch movies together featuring her favorite actors actors Denzel Washington, Danny Glover, and even 2Pac. Little did she know the seeds were being planted in his head of doing something great.
The entertainment, movie, and the music around Jacksonville ‘Da Bait’ gives a ‘DUUUVAL’ Renaissance feel by highlighting local talent like SlimDude904, BabyBoy904, Tudy P, and PVG Bo “Nobody Died Today” performed a mini concert keeping the crowd moving.
Phaze 3 is described as going through 3 different phases in life.
- Learning
- Putting what you learned into action w/ mistakes
- Running the marathon with what you learned.
Everyone involved has put in the work and now they are reaping the benefits of hard work and dedication.
Learning from Terry Parker, JU, and Todd’s hustle earned him a trip to Atlanta to work as an extra on Tyler Perry’s Sistas on BET and currently have 14 acting credits to his name.
